Description of the Book from AmazonYoung up-and-coming author Liz McKinnen has no idea that her life is about to change forever when she comes home from her first book tour. When she's kidnapped and told by her captors that she has to kill her fantasy book's antagonist, she thinks that she's fallen into the hands of crazy, dangerous fans... until her antagonist sends a real, fire-breathing dragon after her. Liz is quickly initiated into the Immortal Writers, a group of authors from throughout time whose words have given them eternal life, and whose prose is so powerful that it's brought stories over from the Imagination Field into the Reality Field. As Liz meets authors such as William Shakespeare, JRR Tolkien, Edgar Allan Poe, and Jane Austen, she has to learn how to control magic, fight dragons, and face her own troubled past before her power-hungry villain takes over the world. Will she survive the ultimate battle against the dragon lord whom she created? My ReviewThe publisher was kind enough to allow me to read this book before publication. If you enjoy fantasy novels you definitely need to pre-order this book! I would like to call it more of a young adult book but there are some more mature topics in the novel. I'm pretty sure anyone who loves books has imagined what it would be like if your favourite characters came to life. This is exactly what happens in this novel. The young author writes fantasy novels but everything changes when her characters come alive. There are many other authors that are Immortal Writers and it is interesting to see what they might be like if they really were still alive today. This book blends the real world and the fantasy world that was created by the author in the novel. I do feel like the novel was a bit short, a lot was just glossed over, and some things just seemed too easy for the characters to figure out or complete. It was probably challenging though to basically write a story within a story since there is a lot of background information needed for both the fantasy characters and those in the real world. Since this is just the first novel in the series I'm hoping that the characters will be expanded upon more and we will get more details about the fantasy world that the characters are from. I'm also hoping that they may add another Immortal Writer to the mix and see how that plays out. I'm not usually big on romance but the two characters involved in the love story in this novel just seemed too easy. There were very few obstacles in their way and although there was tension there wasn't conflict or mystery. Overall I really enjoyed this novel and look forward to future novels in this series. As far as I could tell this is the first novel for this writer but she is being added to my list of authors to keep an eye on. I love fantasy novels and her story contains one within another story. So go check it out and pre-order your copy!
