Description of the Book from AmazonThere are two schools of thought for encouraging babies to sleep through the night: the hotly debated Ferber technique of letting the baby "cry it out," or the grin-and-bear-it solution of getting up from dusk to dawn as often as necessary. If you don't believe in letting your baby cry it out, but desperately want to sleep, there is now a third option, presented in Elizabeth Pantley's sanity-saving book The No-Cry Sleep Solution. Pantley's successful solution has been tested and proven effective by scores of mothers and their babies from across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Based on her research, Pantley's guide provides you with effective strategies to overcoming naptime and nighttime problems. The No-Cry Sleep Solution offers clearly explained, step-by-step ideas that steer your little ones toward a good night's sleep--all with no crying. Tips from The No-Cry Sleep Solution:
My ReviewWhen I first started babysitting the "cry it out" method was what everyone was doing. It broke my heart to hear the babies crying themselves to sleep but I did what the parents told me. Now as an adult I'm still not a fan of the method but also didn't know what other way there was. Elizabeth Pantley provides that alternative. This book is easy to read and helps with multiple issues. It is very clear and laid out in a step-by-step way that will have parents and their babies sleeping in no time. When I first read this book I was frustrated by the fact there are no solutions for parents with newborns. As a postpartum doula I wanted to be able to give advice to my sleep deprived clients on how to get their newborns to sleep better. I feel that the newborn stage and the toddler stage are the most challenging sleep times for parents and this book doesn't really cover either. Thankfully there is now a toddler version and a newborn version will be released very soon. My review of the newborn book will be posted here. Overall I feel that this is a must read for parents, especially BEFORE baby arrives. Once baby is here and you are sleep deprived it might be harder to find time to read it. Once you've read through it it is easy to flip back to the step-by-step guide that you need for your child's age and your issues.
