Description of the Book from ICAN WebsiteIn a culture where cesarean section is viewed as simply another way to have a baby, we seldom hear the voices of women whose experiences have not been so easy. This groundbreaking book answers the question “What’s so bad about a cesarean?” in a raw, honest, heart-shattering way. If you care for or about women and babies, hear these voices. My ReviewI liked that this book had many different stories. It wasn't just one woman's experience and memories. There was a large sample size used to write this collection of experiences which might help women feel that they are not alone in their experiences. I must admit though that I found this book very “doom and gloom”. I read this book while trying to conceive, knowing that I most likely would be needing a cesarean. This book has the worse cases possible and I don't think there are many women that should read this. No pregnant women or any that had a positive cesarean should ever read this book. This book could be a very traumatic read for women who might need a cesarean. I felt there were many issues brought up in this book that in reality might never even be an issue for most women. I understand the need for a book like this. I think it would be very healing for women who had a traumatic cesarean experience to feel that she is not alone. That said I think that if a woman were to read this it would have to be quite a time after her traumatic cesarean because I would be afraid that if she read it shortly after she would be worried about some issues that might never become an issue such as bonding or long term healing issues. There are much more informative books out there that I would recommend instead such as The Essential C-Section Guide as I felt that provided a more fact based, informational read that would better help mothers facing a cesarean or who have recently had one.
